A week of temperatures above 40C. Sweltering conditions with the extreme heat causing high risk bushfire conditions at home. It was coincidental that a planned trip to the beach happened to fall in the same week. But welcome - completely welcome! Thanks to Oma's keen eye for comfy accommodation we stayed close to the beach and visited the crashing, noisy water every day. We rode (or at least attempted to) waves, ate simply with coolness being the priority, drank loads of ice water (in between chilled ciders and pale ales), played Cluedo (of the Phryne Fisher variety! Phryne is my hero..) and generally did our best to beat the heat. Full body immersion in large volumes of water really is the only way. Thankyou Oma for a beautiful week. xx

Hoping you  got through the week without too much discomfort and are enjoying the cool change..at last. And to the northerners..keep warm!

(PS - the last image was taken in Ocean Grove's main street and is artwork made with rubbish that had made it's way to the beach through rivers and waterways. The message: Protect our wildlife and natural environment by placing rubbish in bins/not littering).

  1. I was wondering how you were faring Christine. Glad you had a slightly cooler break, and I hope that's the last of the hot weather for the season. Those beach side days are the best. I love, love, love them!

  4. Oh I am so envious. We are still in the midst of the heat wave, not that it has got to the temps. you guys had to endure. Your holiday looks glorious.

  5. That looks like a great week and today it's hot in Brisbane but it's only in the early 30's. We had 40 here a couple of weeks ago for the first time and it was dreadful. I've been in Melbourne in January a few times with that over 40 heat and all you can do is stay indoors in the air conditioning or like you go to the beach and chill. Looks like a lovely relaxing week. Hope you survive both the heat and the bush fires in your area. Regards Kathy A, Brisbane, Australia

  6. Great photos Chris! I love the water around Victoria, it reminds me of English beaches/seaside. So glad that you were at the water during that heat, several days of it can be enervating.
